Graduation Application - Deadline is May 17th for Spring quarter graduation!

The online graduation application is available on the first day of each quarter. The application deadline for the Autumn, Winter, and Spring quarters is the seventh week of the quarter. The application deadline for Summer quarter is the sixth week of the quarter.

  • Students must be enrolled in classes during the quarter they plan to graduate
  • On the graduate application form, specify “non-thesis” in response to the question about a "thesis" or "non-thesis" program
  • The online graduation application provides an automatic degree audit of your transcript in regard to the UW Graduate School requirements for graduation, but does not include the specific degree requirements of the MBA Program
  • Once you apply for graduation, the MBA Program office conducts an MBA degree audit, after which you will receive an e-mail that details specific classes and requirements that you must complete in order to graduate with an MBA degree

Graduating Student Survey 2009 (to be completed by ALL graduating students)

We ask that all graduating students complete the survey, even if you are not planning to attend the ceremony. This survey will provide us with information about how you want your name to appear in the graduation program and also whether you plan to attend the ceremony and how many guests you wish to bring. At the present time, we anticipate we will have 4 guest tickets per graduating student, but we will use the survey results to determine if extra tickets will be available.

Please complete the survey no later than May 15. If you do not complete the survey by that date, we will assume you do NOT plan to attend the ceremony and will reallocate your guest tickets to other students.

Graduation Ceremonies

You have the opportunity to participate in two separate graduation ceremonies:

  1. The Foster School of Business Graduation Ceremony for Full-time MBA, Evening MBA, GEMBA (Global Executive MBA), and PhD students, is scheduled for the evening of Saturday, June 13, 2009, in the Meany Hall Center for Performing Arts on the UW campus.
    • Graduates must arrive no later than 6pm.
    • The ceremony generally runs from 7–9pm, followed by a reception for graduates and their guests.
  2. The UW Graduation Ceremony will be held the afternoon of Saturday, June 13, 2009 at Husky Stadium. Refer to the UW Commencement website for details on participating in that celebration.

Graduation Tickets

Academic Attire (Caps and Gowns)

Caps and gowns are required for both ceremonies.

You can order your graduation attire online between May 4th and May 24th. The apparel purchase fee is $55.95 for the Masters gown. Students who acquire their attire from previous graduates must notify Linda Bruen to be cleared to participate in the Foster School Graduation Ceremony.

Apparel Pick-up: 11:00am - 6:00pm, June 3 to June 6 at The HUB.  Your order will be ready on your chosen date.  You must bring a printout of your receipt when picking up your order.  Go to the apparel pick-up table and present your receipt.  If you are unable to go during this time you may have a friend or family member pick up your order, as long as they have a signed copy of your receipt authorizing them to pick your order and Photo ID.  You are responsible for checking the accuracy of your order at the time of pickup.

Event Parking: Parking passes are required and can be ordered online when placing your apparel order. Cost is $11.00 per vehicle.  The closest lot is the Central Parking Garage which is underneath Meany Hall and the Undergraduate Library.

Payment for parking passes and apparel is taken online when finalizing your order.  You may use Visa, MasterCard, a debit card, or a valid checking account number.

Graduation Speaker

Gerald Grinstein, Strategic Director of Madrona Venture Group, will be the speaker at the Foster School graduation. Click here for Gerald's biography.

Commencement Photography

Complimentary commencement photographs will be taken by Photograds as each graduate crosses the stage and shakes hands with the Dean.  Each graduate will also be photographed as they exit the stage.  Details can be found here.  Please note that only the main UW ceremony is captured on video (DVD).  Your friends are welcome to use video cameras at the Foster Ceremony but may not block aisle or view of the stage while doing so.

Graduation Announcements

Students may wish to order personalized announcements. Three companies, Excition, Jostens, and Signature Announcements, have been licensed to provide announcements for University of Washington graduates. Information about ordering announcements and other gifts can be found on the UW Commencement website.

Diplomas

Three or four months after you graduate your diploma will be sent to the permanent address on record in MyUW at the time of graduation. The name on the diploma will appear as it does on your MyUW. To change your address or the spelling/appearance of your name on your diploma, refer to the information on the Office of the Registrar's website.

We look forward to having you and your family and friends participate in the 2009 Foster School of Business Graduation Ceremony! Congratulations!
