EVENING MBA DINNERS THIS WEEK: Tuesday & Wednesday

Evening MBA students! Please plan to join us for dinner and conversation before classes on Tuesday, February 3 and Wednesday, February 4 from 5:00-6:00pm in the UG Commons. Prospective students will be joining you for dinner on Wednesday - please wear your nametag and regale them with stories of your Foster MBA experience while you share a meal together.

LEADERS TO LEGEND BREAKFAST LECTURE - FEB 11

The first Leaders to Legends Breakfast for winter quarter will be held on Wednesday, February 11 in the Walker-Ames Room on the 2nd floor of Kane Hall. The speaker will be Randy Talbot, President & CEO of Symetra Financial. He will be speaking on his leadership strategies, and discussing the path taken by Symetra that grew it from a spinoff of Safeco, to one of the largest financial services companies on the West Coast. ACADEMIC ANNOUNCEMENTS

Spring Quarter Elective Bidding Opens Wednesday, Feb 4
Bidding for spring quarter Advanced Core Options and other elective classes begins Wednesday, February 4, at 8:00am. Bidding closes on Wednesday, February 11 at midnight. Information about your bid point allotments and bidding eligibility is listed below:

  • Full-time MBA Class of 2009: 75 points for 11-16 elective credits, 50 points for 8-10 credits, 25 points for 4-6 credits, 15 points for less than 4 credits.
  • Full-time MBA Class of 2010: 50 points for 8 credits of Advanced Core Options courses, 25 points for 4-6 credits, 15 points for less than 4 credits.
  • Evening MBA Class of 2009: 50 points for 8 credits of elective classes, 25 points for 4-6 credits, 15 points for less than 4 credits.
  • Evening MBA Class of 2010: 35 points for indicating your MGMT 505 Core Section preference and 4 credits of electives & 25 points for 4 credits of Advanced Core Options, 15 points for less than 4 credits.
  • Evening MBA Class of 2011: No bid points. Registration requests may be made on a space-available basis beginning Sunday, March 1 by emailing mbaregis@u.washington.edu.

Note: All MBA students are eligible to request space in Advance Core Options courses and electives classes beginning Sunday, March 1 by emailing mbaregis@u.washington.edu. Email requests submitted prior to that time will be deleted.

Note to First-Year Full-Time Students: The section assignments for spring quarter core classes is scheduled to be distributed in mid-February. Neither section will conflict with any of the Advanced Core Options offerings.

Winter Quarter Graduation - Revised Application Deadlines
If you intend to complete your degree requirements in winter quarter, you need to apply for graduation with the UW Graduate School by February 22 to avoid late fees. If you wish to check the requirements that remain for you to complete your degree, please email mbaregis and we will do a degree check.

MBA Graduation Ceremony 2009
The graduation ceremony for full-time and evening MBA students is scheduled for Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 7:00pm. For those of you who will be graduating in winter or spring quarter 2009, please become familiar with the graduation information on the MBA website. This webpage supplies details regarding applying for graduation, the graduation ceremony, academic attire, graduation tickets, and diplomas. Note for International students: If you have family members who wish to attend the graduation ceremony and need letters to support their visa application, please contact Linda Bruen.

BOARD FELLOWS PROGRAM - APPLICATION PERIOD OPENING FEBRUARY 1

For those of you who are interested in learning more about the Board Fellows Program, now is the time to start investigating this wonderful opportunity. Please take a look at the Board Fellows handbook to get an overview of the program and plan to attend one of the information sessions coming up soon. TAX 101 WORKSHOPS

Student Fiscal Services will be offering two different types of tax classes to students over the next couple of months: Tax 101 Workshops for US Resident Students and Tax 101 for Non US Resident and International Students. Puget Sound Buiness Journal (PSBJ) Women of Influence Scholarships
PBSJ, in conjunction with Lytle Enterprises and The Seattle Foundation, offers a wonderful opportunity for female students pursuing a graduate level degree in Washington. The student selected each year not only receives the financial contribution ($5,000) but also mentoring from members of the prestigious Women of Influence advisory board. 2009 Bullitt Environmental Fellowship Call for Applications
