Will a class I’ve taken outside the Business School count toward my MBA degree?
A non-Business School class may count toward your degree if it relates to your ultimate career goals. Please read the guidelines on the Non-MBA Classes page on the MBA Portal. Classes taken before you enter the UW MBA Program are considered on a case-by-case basis.
How do I take a non-MBA class?
Follow these steps to take a non-MBA class:
- Find a non-MBA class you’re interested in by looking at the UW quarterly time schedule.
- To count the class toward your MBA degree, complete and submit a Non-MBA Class Request form along with appropriate documentation/information about the class.
- Obtain permission (and an add code, if necessary) from the instructor of the class or the department through which the class is offered.
- Register for the class through MyUW.
How can I add and drop classes?
You can find the guidelines for adding and dropping classes on the Adding, Dropping, Withdrawing from Classes page on the MBA Portal.
An independent study is a special class arranged between a student and a faculty member. For details about independent study, please review the Registration Handbook. To register for an independent study, you must submit to the MBA Program office an Independent Study form that has been signed by the faculty member and receive the SLN and faculty code that will allow you to register for the class on MyUW.
