Transferring to the Michael G. Foster School of Business MBA Program

Any applicant seeking to transfer to the University of Washington MBA Program after starting an MBA program at another school should know the standards for admission as a transfer student are at least as stringent, if not more stringent than the admissions standards for new MBA students. It is not a good strategy to seek admissions to a program elsewhere in the hope of gaining acceptance to the UW MBA Program as a transfer student. Please note that only candidates from accredited institutions will be considered for admission as a transfer student.

Transfer applicants are held to the same admissions requirements and standards as new MBA applicants. In addition, the admissions committee will take into consideration the course content and academic rigor of the courses in the other program, as well as the student's individual performance in the program when making an admissions decision. The UW MBA Program will not review transcripts of work completed in other program until an application has been submitted and the application is under review. UW staff will not discuss any specific courses that may be required to complete the UW MBA program until an admissions decision has been made. Please note that prior to a final admissions decision, any discussion regarding courses at other institutions is non-binding speculation on what may (or may not) be comparable coursework.

Transferring to the Part Time/Evening MBA Program

Transfer applications to the Evening MBA Program are submitted through the same process as new MBA applications. The applications must be submitted in accordance with the April 15th deadline. To be considered for admission as a transfer student, an MBA candidate must have completed the equivalent of the UW MBA Core at another institution.

If an MBA candidate has completed the equivalent of all the core courses required by the UW Evening MBA Program and is admitted as a transfer student, this candidate must complete at least 36 credits (normally 9 4-credit courses) of electives. 36 credits constitute the minimum number of credits to earn a Master's degree at the University of Washington.

Please note that the Associate Dean will determine on a case-by-case basis whether the candidate is required to complete particular prerequisite courses necessary for some elective courses. This will be determined upon admission to the UW MBA Program. Also, credits from the other MBA Program are not transferred to the University of Washington and will not appear on the student's UW transcript. However, these credits are a key-qualifying factor in granting admission to a student seeking to transfer from another MBA program.

The UW Evening MBA Program may choose to award some elective credit for courses that were required at the other program. This will be determined upon admission and the decision will be made solely at the discretion of the Associate Dean.
