| Thank you for your interest in applying to the University of Washington Evening MBA Program. The application deadline for the Evening MBA Program is April 15. To apply for autumn 2008, please use our online application.
If you are not able to access the online application, or you are not able to pay the application fee with a credit card, you may send an email to mba@u.washington.edu to request that a printable copy of the application be sent to you via email.
If you would like to have more information sent to you, feel free to fill out our online inquiry form. We do mailings about once every other week, so depending on your location in the world, it may take some time to reach you. |
Please read the instructions carefully before completing the application.
The MBA Program office uses a self-managed application process. You are responsible for assembling and submitting ALL supplemental elements of the Evening MBA application in ONE package.
DO NOT send any components of your application separately, insert documents in folders/plastic sheets, or bind the application. This will cause unnecessary delays in the processing of your application. Using other forms of your name rather than your legal name will also cause delay. Provide your full legal name as it appears on your passport, birth certificate or other official documentation.
Application Form
The online application form must be filled out completely. Your full
legal name should appear at the top of all supporting
materials. Once the application is submitted, be sure
to notify the MBA Program Office of any address changes.
Applicants may use the same application form to apply to the Evening MBA Program, the Full-time MBA Program and/or the Global MBA Program. If you are applying to multiple programs, it is not necessary to submit additional copies of supplemental materials such as letters of recommendation and transcripts. However, be sure to complete the required essays for each program to which you apply.
The UW Evening MBA Program is designed so that each student may develop an individual concentration to fit specific personal career objectives. You may pursue a concentration in a single discipline (such as Finance) a combination of a discipline and one or more certificate programs (such as Marketing/Global Business) or a completely customized concentration. You may also choose no concentration and pursue a general Management MBA. Please indicate your areas of interest in the MBA Study Plan area.
In the Employment History area, include background on your three most recent
full-time positions. DO NOT leave this section
blank or refer to your resume.
Essays
The required essays allow the Admissions committee
to learn about you, your accomplishments and your
professional aspirations. Please prepare these essays
thoughtfully and candidly. Follow the instructions
and carefully adhere to the maximum word limit that
is listed with each essay question. Responses should
be double-spaced and each page should clearly list
your name and the essay topic.
Transcripts
Please include TWO official transcripts in
sealed envelopes from each post-secondary school you
have attended. DO NOT open these envelopes; if the
seals are broken they are no longer "official". If
you attended the University of Washington, you must
still request and submit TWO official sealed transcripts.
While the Admissions Committee prefers to have transcripts enclosed in the application packet, some schools will not release official transcripts directly to the applicants. Institutions can send transcripts directly to: MBA Program Office, Michael G. Foster School of Business, University of Washington, Box 353200, Seattle, WA 98195-3200 USA.
If you list additional classes that you have taken
(e.g. university extension courses or post-graduate
courses), you must also provide us with official transcripts
to support this work.
Recommendations
TWO recommendations are required. Individuals
who are well acquainted with you and your managerial
capabilities, preferably employers or supervisors,
should complete recommendations. You are advised to
request recommendations well in advance of the application
deadline to ensure your application packet is complete
when submitted.
Applicants may opt to have their recommendations submitted electronically. Please follow the online recommendation letter instructions carefully. If your recommenders prefer to submit their letters via hard copy, you may print the recommendation forms included in the online application. Please fill out your name and the program(s) you are applying for (Full-time, Global or Evening) at the top of each recommendation form. It is advisable to provide each of your evaluators a self-addressed, stamped envelope to facilitate the prompt return of your recommendation so that you may include it in your application package. The evaluators must seal the recommendation letters with their signature across the seal.
GMAT
All applicants are required to take the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT), which is administered by Pearson VUE. We recommend you to take the GMAT as early as possible. Request that Pearson VUE send your official scores to the University of Washington (code for full-time applicants: 459-75-20; code for evening applicants: 459-75-46). It can take two to three weeks for our office to receive your official scores from Pearson VUE, so please include a photocopy of your score report in your supplemental materials packet.
GMAT scores are valid for five years. If you have taken the test more than once, the Admissions Committee will use your strongest score to evaluate your application. For registration information and testing location, call 800.GMATNOW or visit the GMAT Web site.
Resume
Enclose a current resume describing all work
experience since high school. The resume should not
exceed two pages. Your resume must include your legal
full name, address and email address.
E-mail Notification
All communication regarding the status of your
application will be through electronic mail only.
You must provide us with an e-mail address or you
will not be able to receive information about your
application status.
Evaluation Day
Rather than conduct individual interviews for the Evening MBA Program, the Admissions Committee uses a two-step application process. After a careful review of the applications, competitive candidates are invited to a day of evaluation activities, scheduled for June 7, 2008. Attendance at Evaluation Day is a mandatory part of the Evening MBA application process.
Applicants should plan accordingly.
Application Fee
Applicants must pay the non-refundable application fee of $75.00 with a credit or debit card.
Applying to Multiple Programs
You may apply to any of the three MBA programs offered in this application. Please note: if you apply to multiple programs you must apply in time to meet the deadline of the program with the earliest deadline. All applications are evaluated together when the application deadline arrives, so applications received well in advance of a deadline will be held until the appropriate deadline arrives.
Reapplication
MBA applications are retained for two years
only. If you applied to the Program in the past two
years, then this year you need to submit the following:
- A new application form
- An updated resume
- ONE essay providing information on what has changed and what you have accomplished since the last year you submitted an application.
- $75 application fee
We do not need new official transcripts (unless you've completed additional coursework),
recommendations, or official score reports. Of course,
you still have the option to update any of these items.
And remember, GMAT scores are valid for only five years
and TOEFL scores for only two years. If you are reapplying
more than two years after a previous application to
the UW MBA Program, you must follow all the application
instructions and resubmit all official documentation.
Be sure to indicate that you are reapplying to the UW
MBA Program as your applicant status. Transfer
Applicants
Applicants who have completed coursework in
another MBA program must complete the same application
and comply with the same deadlines and admissions
requirements as other applicants. To be considered
as a transfer applicant to the UW Evening MBA Program,
an applicant must have completed the equivalent of
the UW MBA core courses. If only a portion of the
core coursework has been completed, an applicant will
be considered for admission, but will be required
to start the UW MBA Program as a new student due to
the integrated structure of the UW MBA core curriculum.
Please see the transfer applicants page for more information.
