How can we close the gap between the worlds of school and work? In 2006, CISB Alumni Council members Anne Sackville-West and Nishika de Rosairo started an exciting new mentorship program called Business Mentoring Connections (BMeC) to address this question. BMeC is designed to help CISB students prepare for the world of work through a focus on self-awareness and personal growth and development with the guidance of talented mentors from the business and educational communities. CISB students are paired one-on-one with a mentor and they meet regularly over the course of the academic year. Now in its third year, the program has benefited more than 30 students as well as mentors. Students get the guidance they need and mentors develop their coaching skills while helping students grow and learn.
Says one former mentee, “My mentor helped me not only with my career goals but also my personal goals. The mentors in this program have a breadth of knowledge that is definitely worth tapping into. I would recommend this program highly – it is well worth the investment!”
A returning mentor says, “This kind of program develops skills that are crucial to managers: listening, patience and developing the overall person.”
