Global Business Certificate
The Global Business Certificate is an academic
MBA certificate option that consists of several international
activities and opportunities, serving as evidence
of a student's preparation for and commitment to
global business.To future employers, the Global
Business Certificate is an important signal
of MBA student's interest in working as a global
manager.
To earn a Global Business Certificate,
the following five requirements must be completed:
1. Community Networking &
Resources
Enrollment for credit in BA545, Global
Business Issues during three academic quarters
NOTE: Students participating in an MBA
exchange program must enroll in BA545 for at least
one quarter during the first year in the MBA program in order to complete three quarters of BA545. |
2. International Experience (waived for international students)
There are two ways to fulfill the international experience requirement:
Option 1: Participate in an MBA
Exchange Program for one academic
quarter. Requirement fulfilled.
Option 2: Complete two of the following three options:
a) Foreign Language Study:
1.
Summer intensive language program (completed after
MBA admittance)
2.
Three quarters of academic foreign language (completed after
MBA admittance)
3.
Foreign Langauge Placement test at 300 level or better
b)
A Global
Business Study Tour
c) MBA Practicum experience (one of these three):
1.
Globally-focused internship
2.
Four-credit globally-focused independent study
3.
Completion of Field Study Management project |
3 and 4. Curriculum
a) Complete IBUS509 (Bridge Elective: Foundations
of International Business)
b) Complete three international electives: These courses can be taken from the Foster School of Business,
UW graduate department, or at an approved exchange
partner institution.
NOTE: Elective courses must be international
in scope to count toward the certificate requirements.
MBA students can enroll in 16 graduate credits outside
of the Foster School of Business upon approval from the MBA
Program Office. Courses taken at an exchange institution
don't count toward these 16 credits. |
5. Peer Interaction
Membership in the Global
Business Association, an MBA student organization. |
